At Ascension, we are committed to recruiting and retaining a high-quality staff. Lead Teachers are required to have a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, or a closely related field. All staff members participate in a continuous program of education and training in early education, health, and safety.

Hi Everyone, My name is Jennifer Wilson, I am the Director at Ascension Episcopal Day School. Ascension is known for their tight knit program dedicated to providing the community with high quality childcare, which is why after being the Lead Infant teacher for 8 years here at the school, and Assistant Director for 1 year, I am happy to take on the role of Director. I am from this beautiful place known as Norfolk, VA. I am happily married to my wonderful husband, a mom of two amazing boys, ages 5 and 1 years old. I graduated from Norfolk State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education. I have a tremendous love for children, and have a strong desire to work with them, it is indeed my passion. I've been in the Early Childhood Education field for over 15 yrs. My experience in childcare started with modeling how to love, care, and nurture a child in my mothers in home daycare, to engaging in hands on experiences at Norfolk State University Child Development Lab, transitioning to AEDS as the Lead Infant teacher, returning as the Assistant Director, and now serving as Director. I look forward to supporting our educators who want and need to stay passionate about the work they do, assisting your families, and most importantly creating a safe, and nurturing place, where each child can grow and develop throughout the years at our school. Communication is a large part of building a strong and dependable relationship; with that said I am here for any questions and concerns you may have! I sincerely hope that I am able to meet and exceed your expectations as the AEDS Director, thank you!
Sincerely, Jennifer P. Wilson director@ascension-norfolk.org
Hi, I’m Jordie! My role at AEDs is a mixture of hands-on, day-to-day fun, and lots of behind-the-scenes magic, making sure that our administrative operations run smoothly! From onboarding new staff members to account management and much more, I can usually be found calculating something in my office or planning for special school events!
Aside from my work at Ascension, I have a history of working in various nonprofits in Hampton Roads pertaining to early childhood education and development, most notably the Norfolk Botanical Garden and the Simon Family Jewish Community Center. The things I learned as I came up in both of those organizations continue to serve me each day in my work at AEDS! I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Nonprofit Management, and prior to coming to Ascension, I founded a local nonprofit – Compassion Cards – where I served as Executive Director for ten years. Outside of my professional endeavors, you can most often find me with my nose in a book, cuddled up with my cat. I’m an avid reader, writer, and artist! My philosophy in life is to always be mindfully working toward an environment of acceptance, empathy, and compassion, and I’m grateful that I can spend time cultivating such a space for your children alongside my colleagues here at AEDS!

Working with children is more than a job to me, it is a calling! Being surrounded by children and teaching brings joy to my life. I am currently a senior at Old Dominion University, after completing the two-year transfer program at Tidewater Community College, majoring in Psychology with a specification in child development. I have been in the Early Childhood Education field for 7 years and counting, all here at AEDS, primarily in the infant and toddler rooms. In addition to working at AEDS I have also led the nursery/childcare program, ages 1-12 years, during the Sabbath for Congregation Beth El, a synagogue in Ghent. I enjoy working with children of all ages in and out of the classroom. I am originally from Vermont (Go Patriots!) but have been living in Norfolk for 9 years and graduated from Maury High School. I have an older brother and am lucky to have my family also living in Norfolk! My boyfriend and I currently live in Norfolk with our dog Keanu. Outside of work I enjoy cooking, watching movies, and spending time outside, especially at the beach.

I graduated from the University of Tampa in 2020, majoring in Psychology with a curriculum concentration in Child Development. I have always had the biggest love for children and knew that I was meant to help nurture and care for children. I have been working in the Early Childhood Education field for 5 years and counting, predominately with ages 3mo-5 years. In my spare time, I can be found cuddling my cat Buttercup, watching tv and exploring Norfolk. I am looking forward to being apart of your child’s developmental journey!

Before taking on the role of Lead Teacher, I supported the 2's as their Afternoon Assistant and Primary Assistant. Prior to joining the 2's team, I worked as our teacher floater and have had the opportunity to work in each classroom at AEDS, as well as assist in the office! I love working with the two’s, and watching as they explore new things! I am a graduate of Norfolk State University. I look forward to meeting you, and working with your child on their learning journey!
